Balmain AW15

Unless you've been deep sea diving or on a week long trek in the Himalayas, then you would probably know by now that Kim K bleached her head and unveiled her new platinum sitch at the AW15 Balmain show in Paris this week. In an odd coincidence, Jared Leto also rocked up to the show with his new peroxide hair, threatening a thunder steal, but surprisingly this is not all that happened at the Balmain show. There was also a bunch of models wearing sh*t hot couture on the runway. Now in his fifth year at the helm, Olivier Rousteing has become completely comfortable in exposing his unabashed love for pop culutre and all that goes along with it. Happy to cast the 'must have' models of the season (Kendall & Gigi) in a lineup of current runway veterans, Rousteing even threw in a few VS Angels for good measure. And while this all may seem very attention grabbing, it's actually just a very natural extension of the collection which is driven by Rousteing's love for pop culture starlets and all that they represent. The glitzy sparkly feel to the show reflects those in which the pieces are designed for, the front rowers, the celebs, the social media pop tarts. It's an interesting but somewhat natural relationship if you really think about, in that the two sides seem to feed back in to the other, breathing life into each others popularity and status, completely disregarding those who sit and judge on the sidelines, as they need only each other.

As far as the simple fashion element in this collection goes, it's another 10 pointer, with Rousteing's freedom to play in glitz and power glamour dictating the slick and sexy conviction of the show. Balmain mainstays; Sparkly fringes, bold block colours, big belts and perfect pleats were ever present but it was the addition of new pieces such as bodysuits and palazzo pants in sheer lace and silks that really kept things interesting. A stunning collection of vibrant riches, the winter Balmain woman is as slick as she is cinched!
